Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim
Grand Cru from Alsace
On the edge of the medieval town of Bergheim, the vineyard runs on the south face of the Grasberg nipple, steep slope, at an altitude of 220 to 320 m.
At the heart of the Ribeauvillé fault field, superimposed on Middle and Lower Jurassic limestones and marls, it consists of very stony, shallow, fossil-rich red marl-limestone soils.
The southern exposure, the remoteness of the Vosges front, the steep slope to the small brook, the Bergenbach, favor a warm and temperate microclimate, temperatures and hygrometry very regular.
By its unity and its typicality, the vineyard, with an area of 35.06 ha, favors Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Riesling.
Pride of the winemakers of Bergheim, the Altenberg is known and renowned for its great wines from the 12th century. Many citations in the communal archives still underline its exceptional viticultural vocation.
The perfect match between a powerful and virile body, a fine and subtle aromatic expression, distinguish Altenberg Grands Crus, gastronomic wines par excellence.
